A Complete Guide and List of HTTP Status Codes and Redirects

HTTP response status codes show whether a specific HTTP request has been successfully completed. These codes are essentially noted that are combined to a web page from a web server. Hypertext Transfer Protocol (or HTTP) response status codes are returned whenever search engines make a request to a web server. These codes indicate the status of HTTP requests. Basically, these codes are classified into different classes: successful responses, client errors, server’s errors, informational responses, and redirects.

Classes of HTTP Codes:

  • 100’s – Informational Responses: 100 status codes. This indicates that user should continue with the request or ignore it if it is already finished.
  • 200’s – Successful Responses:  They let you know that your request was received and processed by the server without a problem.
  • 300’s – Redirection Responses: The server sends redirect code to show that a new resource was submitted in order to replace the previous request.
  • 400’s – Client Error Responses:  These Status codes let you know there is an issue to access a web page with your request or your request cannot be fulfilled due to incorrect syntax.
  • 500’s – Server Error Responses: They appear when there is an issue in the server. The server encountered an unexpected condition that prevented request fulfillment but your request to view a web page was successful.
